Why Your First Time in a Massage Chair Might Hurt

Why Your First Time in a Massage Chair Might Hurt

Have you ever used a massage chair and wondered, “Why does this hurt so much?” After all, aren’t massage chairs supposed to make you hurt less, not more? If this experience sounds familiar, don’t give up on your massage chair just yet. Here are a few reasons why your first time in a massage chair might hurt.

Your Body Isn’t Used To It Yet

If you find yourself sore after your first time using a massage chair, it might just be that your body is not used to being massaged yet. Depending on the setting, massage chairs can rub your muscles with a much higher intensity than they are used to, leaving them feeling tender afterward. Some types of chairs, such as an L-track massage chair, massage your body in places it is not used to being massaged, like the lower back and the hamstrings. With continued use, your muscles will adjust to the sensation and will begin to feel relaxed, rather than sore, during and after a massage.

You’re Dehydrated

Being dehydrated can make for a very uncomfortable massage experience. This is because the process of a massage works to flush toxins out of your muscles. In order to effectively remove these toxins from your system, your body needs an ample supply of water. To avoid pain and discomfort from dehydration, be sure to drink plenty of water before you hop into the massage chair.

Your Muscles Weren’t Warmed Up

If your muscles are sore after a massage, it may be because your muscles were not properly warmed up beforehand. Just as you warm up your muscles before intensive exercise, you must warm up your muscles before an intense massage. Try taking a hot shower to warm up your muscles before a massage or trying a less intense setting on your massage chair before transitioning to a more intense one.

These are some of the main reasons why your first time in a massage chair might hurt. To avoid unnecessary pain, properly prepare your muscles and your entire body with a warmup and lots of water before your massage. In addition, try starting out with a less intense setting on your massage chair to give your body time to adjust to the experience. Here at Massage Chairs Express, we offer chairs with a variety of settings and intensities so you can gradually work up to an intense yet relaxing massage without pain.
